Description

Friends of the Rappahannock, the Virginia Department of Forestry, Appalachian Sustainable Development, and York River Steward will be hosting a full-day workshop and farm tour for producers and landowners looking to learn more about silvopasture, which is the intentional integration of trees, forage, and livestock on the same land to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. Participants will learn how adding trees can improve animal health, provide shade and windbreaks, and enhance forage productivity. The program includes expert-led sessions and hands-on demonstrations covering site assessment, forage establishment, and integrating trees with livestock. Registration is free, and breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Location: This June 18th event will be held at George Washington Carver Agricultural Research Center. With a Silvopasture demonstration tour at Val Verde Farm, a family-owned cattle operation in Culpeper County, Virginia.

The intended audience is producers, graziers, and landowners interested in agroforestry, silvopasture, and integrating trees into their grazing operations.
